CHERRY BLOSSOM TOUR

LENGTH OF TOUR: 2-3 hours

WHAT YOU WILL SEE:

Cherry trees, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, and tons of Instagram worthy views.

This walking tour is named the Cherry Blossom Tour, but it is enjoyable all year round, not just when DC’s famous cherry blossom trees are blooming. In fact, I enjoy it most in the fall when the leavings are changing colors and crunching under your feet. Point being – there is no bad time to take this tour.

While on this tour we will walk around the Tidal Basin. This man-made body of water has a long and complicated history itself, and now is home to three massive iconic memorials. We will learn about history of the cherry blossom trees, honor Dr. King’s legacy, sit with Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, and see the most popular spot for marriage proposals in Washington DC. The Tidal Basin is also super close to the Lincoln Memorial as well.

There is much to see along the Tidal Basin and a million pictures to be taken. On this tour we focus on the three major memorials around the water, but if you are feeling adventurous we can also see a forgotten founding father’s memorial and learn about the first airmail delivery service in the United States.

However, if you’re main focus is seeing the notorious cherry blossoms of late March and early April, then please contact me well ahead of “peak bloom” time to arrange a tour. Or if you just want to do an Instagram cherry blossom photo tour and skip all the history then that can be arranged too.

“I also thought we might have a Japanese Cherry Blossom season in Potomac Park. Both the soil and climate encourage such an ambition…”
